Note on Indigenous Writing & Editing
Based on the guidelines suggested in Elements of Indigenous Style: A Guide for Writing By and About Indigenous People by Gregory Younging, I am committed to representing the stories and voices of Indigenous Peoples in a respectful and accurate manner by using the language and terminology that is deemed most appropriate by members of these diverse peoples. I recognize that many aspects, such as capitalization, are up for debate. I will therefore strive to justify my choices, collaborate with the people being written about, and stay up to date on evolving language standards. I will always respect that Sacred Stories, Traditional Knowledges, and Oral Traditions are Indigenous Cultural Property and will not publish these without explicit consent from an authoritative member. When editing and writing, I will make every effort to decolonize language and the framing of histories in order to properly reflect the agency, independence, and continuity of Indigenous Peoples.
This book can be purchased from The Glass Bookshop in Edmonton.
